Your Academic Progress Audit System (APAS) report shows which requirements you have completed, which are in progress, and what you need to complete in order to finish your major, minor, or certificate (referred to as a “program” in APAS). APAS draws its information from your official student record. This means that each time you run an APAS report, it contains the most up-to-date information.
If you're still exploring or considering changing majors, the What-If version of the APAS can also help you see how your completed and in-progress credits apply towards any program at the University.
Note: You can only view one program at a time. If you are completing more than one major and/or a minor, you will need to view them separately. If you have declared programs on more than one campus, you will need to change the campus view to see your APAS reports for each campus.
APAS Resources
You can run APAS reports for your declared program(s) or a What-if APAS that allows you to see how your credits would apply to non-declared program(s).

Understand your APAS report
Your APAS report shows all of the requirements needed to receive your degree and your progress. It is structured by the types of requirements you must complete for your major, minor or certificate to graduate:
- University credit and GPA requirements
- Liberal education requirements
- College and major requirements, including electives
University credit and GPA requirements
All undergraduate degrees have requirements for minimum credits completed, minimum GPA for courses completed at the Twin Cities campus, limits on credits taken as Satisfactory/Non Satisfactory (pass/fail), and minimum credits completed at the University of Minnesota. This section tracks those requirements for you.
Liberal education requirements
Liberal education requirements provide you an opportunity to explore fields outside your major and complement your curriculum with a multidisciplinary perspective.
All students, regardless of college or major, must complete liberal education requirements throughout their undergraduate experience.
If you want to learn more about these requirements and which classes fulfill them, you can visit the Liberal education requirements page.
College and major requirements
Your specific college and major requirements will appear in your APAS divided into different sections. These usually include college-specific requirements, major core courses, sub-categories, and your program’s credit and GPA requirements.
Note that if a department updates its requirements, an APAS report (including a What-If APAS) may not be updated yet. If you have questions about courses that are applicable to a program or how to meet a program requirement, contact your advisor or the department.
Degree Progress Summary
The Degree Progress Summary section of your APAS assigns and displays the credits in one of three different categories:
- Degree-Applicable Credits, which include courses taken to meet liberal education, college, or major requirements.
- Elective Credits, which include courses that do not meet any liberal education, college, or major requirements, but may be needed to complete the minimum credits required.
- Courses That Do Not Earn Credit, which include withdrawn, failed, repeated, and non-transferable courses.
This section also shows how many credits you will need to complete the degree. This credit total does not account for courses that can fill more than one requirement, so it often does not reflect the minimum credits you still need to complete. Consult your academic advisor for questions about your remaining degree requirements and credits.
APAS support
Your advisor is your best resource if you have questions about your degree requirements and progress, or about interpreting your APAS report. Contact your advisor if you believe there is an error on your APAS report, as manual corrections may be needed in some circumstances.
Note that if a department updates its requirements, an APAS report (including a What-If APAS) may not be updated yet. If you have questions about courses that are applicable to a program or how to meet a program requirement, contact your advisor or the department.
