Tuition and fees

Notice:

  • By registering for classes, a student is entering into a legally binding contract to pay all tuition and fees, including any non-refundable fees. See the current printable policies and procedures for additional information.
  • Tuition and fees are subject to change without notice.

Tuition at the University of Minnesota is assessed according to your student classification and program, your residency status, and whether you come from a state or province with which the University has a reciprocity agreement. In addition to tuition, you may be charged fees based on a variety of criteria.

Once you register for classes, you are officially enrolled and committed to attend. You must pay for any course for which you register unless you officially cancel online or at a One Stop Student Services Center during the 100% refund period. If you cancel after the 100% refund period, you must pay for any portion of the course for which you do not receive a monetary credit.

2009-2010 rates

Tuition and fee rates are set by the University of Minnesota Board of Regents and depend largely on the biennial budget adopted by the state. Typically, rates for the upcoming academic year become available in July. Incoming freshman students may refer to the estimated 2009-2010 new freshman cost of attendance budgets. All other students are encouraged to use prior year figures for purposes of planning until the new rates are released.
