Liberal education: Did U know?

Liberal Education and the Career

The structure of the liberal education curriculum at the University of Minnesota combines the Core, which helps students to recognize and apply a variety of approaches to understanding the world, and the Themes, which focus on complex contemporary issues that can and should be evaluated from a variety of perspectives. Taken together, the curriculum embodies work from a wide range of disciplines and seeks to provide students the opportunity to study the connectedness of their studies with their day-to-day lives and careers. Liberal education is relevant and applicable to students’ varying career paths in a myriad of ways:

Fall 2008 One Stop Student Services internal customer survey results

Last month's Record highlighted the results of a survey of student satisfaction with One Stop Student Services. This month highlights the results of the first ever One Stop Student Services internal customer survey. The goal of this survey was to obtain feedback from internal customers regarding their levels of satisfaction with phone, e-mail, in-person, and Web services.

Invitations for the online survey were sent in mid-October to 92 University of Minnesota collegiate and departmental staff who work routinely with One Stop Student Services staff members. Fifty percent of the participants responded to the survey and the results showed high levels of satisfaction with the services provided.

Over 93 percent rated their overall satisfaction with One Stop Student Services as satisfactory or better. That same number were satisfied or very satisfied on how issues and questions are resolved by One Stop staff. Also, 95 percent of participants were satisfied or very satisfied with the One Stop Web site as a helpful, informative, and up-to-date resource.

Respondents added very positive voluntary comments, noting "[I] can only praise the One Stop staff for all the help and assistance they provide. They are the BEST!"; "I love the new look for the Web site! Wow! Very impressive."; and "Everyone at One Stop is always so friendly and helpful."

Thank you to all who participated in the survey. Suggestions and comments on One Stop Student Services can be submitted at anytime by either using the online comment card or by contacting Mary Koskan at m-kosk@umn.edu. Questions regarding the survey can be directed to Julie Selander at goode021@umn.edu.
