Number of Credits Per Course

The number of credits approved for a particular course or section of a course appears at the end of the time and room information for each course or course section: e.g., 10:15am-11:00am MWF, BlegH 450, Brown, 4 cr. You must register for the number of credits indicated; you may not, for example, take a 4-credit course for either more or fewer than the approved 4 credits. (Extra credit is sometimes possible, however, through X registration.) A few courses are offered for a variable number of credits, as indicated by the notation "ar cr" (credits arranged) or by an optional-credit notation (e.g., "3-4 cr"). In such cases, you may register for the number of credits agreed upon by you and the instructor.
