Return of financial aid after withdrawal

You may find it necessary to withdraw from all classes during a semester. If you received financial aid, the University of Minnesota, as well as yourself, may be required to return all or a portion of the financial aid that you accepted. This situation could result in you owing aid funds to the University, the government, or both.

If you are considering withdrawal from the University, please contact a One Stop Student Services counselor and your academic advisor so your decision will be based on a clear understanding of the consequences of withdrawing from all classes.

You will also find detailed explanations of how funds to be returned are determined and allocated for federal, state, and University financial aid programs in the "Read about" section on the upper left.
