Wisconsin reciprocity rates
Be aware:
- By registering for classes, you enter into a legally binding contract to pay all tuition and fees, including any non-refundable fees. See the current printable Enrollment Policies & Procedures for additional information.
Academic year, 2011–12
If you have been granted the Minnesota-Wisconsin Tuition Reciprocity through the State of Wisconsin Higher Educational Aids Board and were admitted for or after fall 2008, you will pay Minnesota resident rates for tuition. The reciprocity agreement applies only to tuition rates. You will be charged for institutional fees.
Undergraduates
If you are an undergraduate student approved for Minnesota-Wisconsin reciprocity and were admitted prior to fall 2008, you are charged at a per-credit rate based on your enrollment:
| Carlson School of Management (enrolled before fall 2008) | |
|---|---|
| Credits 1-12 | $388.71 |
| 13-18 credit term plateau rate | $5023.25 |
| College of Science and Engineering (enrolled before fall 2008) | |
|---|---|
| Credits 1-12 | $400.25 |
| 13-18 credit term plateau rate | $5203.22 |
| All other (enrolled before fall 2008) | |

| 13-18 credit term plateau rate | $4678.25 |
| All (enrolled fall 2008 or later) | |
|---|---|
| Credits 1-12 | $448.08 |
| 13-18 credit term plateau rate | $5825.00 |
13-credit exemption: If you were admitted prior to fall 2008, you are automatically exempt from the University of Minnesota's 13-credit policy for tuition purposes, which means you will be billed on a per credit rate if you take 12 or fewer credits. If you were admitted fall 2008 or later, you must have a 13-Credit Exemption approved by your college to be charged the per credit rate.
However, if your circumstances prevent registering for 13 or more credits, you may be approved for reduced fee rates by completing the:
- online 13-Credit Exemption Request , or
- by printing the PDF version of the 13-Credit Exemption PDF
If approved, you will be eligible to pay reduced tuition and fees rates for some general, college and program, and service/usage fees.
Graduate & professional students
If you are a graduate student approved for Minnesota-Wisconsin reciprocity, you will pay Minnesota resident rates for graduate-level coursework in the Graduate School (see Graduate School tuition) and in the Carlson School of Management MBA programs, Law School, and College of Pharmacy (See tuition rates at Professional, departmental, & certificate programs).
