Review and update your settings for guests and online payers
The University's online payment process is changing and guest access levels may need to be updated as a result. Students should review and update their settings to ensure that each guest has the level of access that the student considers appropriate.
What is changing?
New features will be added to the web applications for billing, online payments, and Parent/Guest Access. Starting late May/early June:
- billing statements can be viewed in the Student Account
- online payments will be submitted in the Student Account
- students will no longer lose access to Parent/Guest Access upon leaving the University
- guests will gain rights to update their email address
- the authorized payer profiles that were maintained in UM Pay will be deleted. In order to view and pay bills as a guest, the "Student Account" access level must be granted using the Parent/Guest Access application.
Billing and online payments
Students will receive billing notices by email at their University email account. You will be directed to log in to the Student Account to view recent activity and make a payment selection. Formerly, bills and payments were hosted in UM Pay, the University's third-party vendor site.
When you make a payment selection, the Student Account will direct you to UM Pay to complete the transaction. Payments will continue to be processed through UM Pay.
Parent/Guest Access
Improvements to the Parent/Guest Access web application make it easier to manage your guest permission settings.
Until now, students could only use the application while actively enrolled. Leaving the University meant a loss of access to online student records information for the student and all of his or her guests.
Student access will no longer expire. A guest's access will no longer be automatically removed, but can be removed or updated by the student.
Students: update your guest's settings
Please review and update your settings to ensure that your guests have been granted the access levels you want them to have. This is especially important for guests whom you want to view and pay bills online.
Once the changes are effective, the "authorized payer" profiles that were maintained in UM Pay will be deleted. If you want a guest to view and pay bills online, you will need to grant them the "Student Account" access level using the Parent/Guest Access application.
Be aware that your current guests who have the "Student Account" level of access will gain permissions to make online payments. If you do not want a current guest to have payment access, you must log in to the Parent/Guest Access application to remove their "Student Account" access.
Guests: review your access settings, ask your student to update
If you plan to view and pay bills for your student online, please ask your student to grant you the "Student Account" level of access using the Parent/Guest Access application.
Keep your contact information up to date to make sure email notices are sent to your preferred address.
